EXPERIENCE

After completing university in May 2022, I began my first internship at Transmed in the HR department. Transmed is a major distribution company for international products. Over three months I gained insight to to HR policies, and employee performance reviews. I supported in the development of an assessment tool for Leadership that was used in training workshops was given the opportunity to analyze psychometric test results for performance review. In addition, I rotated among sales and e-commerce teams to understand the functions. This experience gave me the opportunity to understand and appreciate the different competencies needed for roles in organizations.
In 2021-2022, Dubai hosted EXPO 2020. I had the privilege of representing and the UAE pavilion as a UAE Ambassador volunteer. This opportunity enabled me to meet VIPs and guests from around the world as I showcased the UAE. In addition, I had the opportunity to support team members and support in the logistics of the pavilion.

Over the summer of 2020, I completed an internship with Wide Horizon. The organization was developing a personal and career development website, “The Facilitator”. The website aims to support high school students, mainly in Egypt, but it may be rolled out to other countries, in understanding themselves better to make educated decision when selecting a major to study at university. In addition, the program enables students to assess their soft skills. Through these assessments, students realize their strengths and weaknesses and can begin to develop.
Working with this organization allowed me to understand the importance of supporting students in understanding themselves better so they can strengthen personally, as well as academically. If a student knows themselves well, they can develop. If they know their personality as well as their strengths and weaknesses, they can select a college major where they can excel. If a student studies a program they enjoy at university, they will perform better and enter a career they will succeed in.

Giving back to people in need is important. I have been fortunate to live a comfortable life therefore I like to volunteer and give back to people less fortunate.
The Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund is a non-profit humanitarian organization that fundraises around the world to support children that need medical attention. It is not just for Palestinians; they also support children in other Middle Eastern countries as well like Syria, Iraq and Jordan.
My family in the United States are active in supporting the organization, therefore when I spend my summers there, I also step in to help the fundraising activities. A cancer hospital was recently built that supports children with cancer. It is very fulfilling to see children receive the medical attention they need. It is a fabulous organization and I encourage everyone to support them if interested.

My first experience traveling abroad without my family was in 2016, when my high school organized a trip to Kathmandu, Nepal to support families impacted by the earthquake that hit the country, clean the city and build a playground for orphans. Visiting Nepal was an eye-opening experience, I had never seen such poverty in my life. But once you spend time around the children and the people, you realize that money does not bring happiness. Little things like giving someone a new shirt can bring the same happiness as getting a new car. It is all about perspectives. Seeing young children so happy and excited over things we take for granted in life made me realize how unfair life is and the importance of giving back.
